Alpacas for Sale

Join me in my addiction to alpaca!

  • Buy a one-of-a-kind handknitted item for yourself or a friend. A handknit item says you care about the person to whom you give it; you made a special effort to purchase something unique for them. Share the soft and silky feel of alpaca with someone you love.

I'm addicted not only to the animal itself, but to its fleece.

Once you've worn alpaca, you'll know what I mean.

Incredibly soft and luxurious.

Although I continue to knit with other yarn, I come back again and again to alpaca!

The November 2005 Creative Knitting contained an article about alpaca fiber,

calling it the "poor man's cashmere."

Hikers, skaters, skiers, backpackers, construction and lumber workers become

addicted to alpaca socks, worn either alone or inside heavier socks.

Because each fiber is hollow, it is a great insulator.

Socks made from alpaca are not only warm, but they wick moisture from the foot.

Alpaca is also very strong and can last forever.

Caramel Swirl, here on the right, was born in 2007.

She has lovely, caramel-colored fleece with a moderate amount of

crimp. She is also a huacaya.

She was shorn for the first time in July 2008 and her cria fleece is for sale.

My animals live at Big Meadow Creek Alpacas in Troy, Idaho.

Jean Brooke is named for my favorite Girl Scout leader.

She is a registered ARI suri alpaca.

Suri fiber is generally silkier and more lustrous than huacaya fiber.

Missy, on the left, is a non-breeding huacaya. She looks larger, but that is only because huacaya fleece stands out from the body like a sheep's fleece.

Missy's fleece makes wonderful roving for handspinners. I can provide references!
